The Shows
Evergreen Children’s Theatre currently offers two innovative and educational puppet shows with environmental themes: Rainforest Experience and Reef Experience.
Rainforest Experience
Rainforest Experience invites the audience on a “journey” through the rainforest where they meet a myriad of creatures authentic in name, colour and behaviour. From Paddy Melons to Scrub Turkey’s, the children will learn about these animals’ lives and how our behaviour can impact on their habitat.
Reef Experience
Reef Experience explores the enchanting world of the Great Barrier Reef. Along the way, the audience will meet many colourful, strange and interesting creatures that form part of this natural wonder. The children also learn about the importance of caring for this fragile environment so it can be enjoyed by all (including its inhabitants) for generations to come.
The soundtracks are original compositions, written for the two shows by Christopher Buckman. The Relaxation music with genuine rainforest or ocean sounds, creates a gentle atmosphere conducive to learning.
Evergreen Children’s Theatre offers a unique experience for young learners. They will:
- Experience a quality theatre production
- Learn facts of interest and wonder about Australia’s rainforests and reefs, fostering a sense of appreciation and respect.
- Begin to see their own role in caring for these environments and valuing them through discussions on litter and pollution.
- Be guided through relaxation and visualisation exercises at the conclusion of each performance.
- Develop skills for life long learning.
- Encourage skills in literacy, numeracy, creativity, thinking and working collaboratively with others.
- Create contexts for learning and development through active learning, inquiry and creative play.
Both shows are useful as excellent springboards for children to research, create, write, draw or paint their response to its themes and content. Teachers receive notes that accompany both shows which contain follow-up activities related to the shows themes.
They also contain finger plays and rhymes used during the shows. These activities, coupled with individuals’ experiences of rainforests or reefs, will reinforce the concepts presented throughout both shows.

Evergreen Children’s Theatre is committed to keeping pace with the current development of the National Curriculum and the shows are guided by the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines based on active learning, enquiry and play.
